Paper to Pearls

This season Paper to Pearls will prepare for the launch of a PSA (public service announcement) campaign for print and Internet media featuring notable and celebrity women, with the help of Anthro21. The campaign will bring attention to the pearl beaded necklaces made from recycled paper by the women (and men) living within IDP/Internally Displaced Persons camps due to previous conflicts in Northern Uganda.

The beads are produced within coops. The bead manufacturing is each individual's own small business, and the coops assist them in quality control, marketing and distribution. The program is a Fair Trade program returning majority of the revenue back to the beadmakers.

Paper to Pearls is an initiative of Voices for Global Change, a non-profit based in Alexandria, Virginia. We welcome you to visit Paper to Pearls to purchase some of their beautifully crafted necklaces. (Photo Credit: Paper to Pearls/Voices for Global Change).
